A French Fridays with Dorie Trifecta Celebration!!

Today is not only Dorie Greenspan’s birthday ON a French Fridays with Dorie posting day but we are also celebrating the release of her newest cookbook, “Baking Chez Moi,” that will be released October 28th, 2014 …. a mere four days away!! *squeee!!*

So the French Fridays with Dorie cooking group, decided that we should all pick one recipe from her newest book, “Baking Chez Moi,” to bake in celebration of the anniversary of the beginning of the group, Dorie’s birthday AND the book release! We all chose from:

I chose to make the Brown Butter-Peach Tourte, but Mei & I decided to use pears instead of peaches, since we are publishing this in October and it would be more seasonal. Well, ok, I was concerned about seasonality and Mei was just thrilled to be eating either peaches or pears, she honestly didn’t give two hoots which fruit we chose so long as she was the one to help me transform it into a “yummy pie!”

We followed the instructions and wound up with a very lovely tourte! I strayed a bit by adding a sprinkling of cinnamon to the browned butter and we wound up tripling the brown butter filling because adding the sugar and flour caused it to thicken enough that it hardly covered a third of the pear chunks.

The sweet tart dough is always great, it’s like that perfect bite of slightly chewy sugar cookie with that perfectly golden outer crumb combined with the caramel-butter filling and bites of fresh pear and a hint of cinnamon? Mmmmmm….. we will be making this one again, without question with all sorts of fruit!!

Plus, I really love the uneven, bubbly looking top… why is it so pleasing??

And because Mei is literally IN LOVE with snow, we chose to dust the top with powdered sugar (not pictured), creating a snow storm in the kitchen which the girls were beyond thrilled about and of course, I cringed at. But what a sweet snow storm to have in your house. And in October? Perfection! A lovely way to celebrate this Trifecta Celebration day!!

Happy Birthday Dorie!!
