Are you ready for some exciting, big news???
Doyle turned RED!!
I picked him shortly afterwards and finally ate him, au natural.
Here he is! No splits or imprefections at all… !!
The wind from last week has caused my canes to tilt, pushing all my tomato plants sideways and I’m too chicken shit to pull the canes back upright and push them further into the ground because I read that if you push stakes or anything that might damage the roots into the ground, you can kill the entire plant.
True or not, I’m not willing to tempt fate in that way, so I’m now letting them grow all loosey goosey! There are plenty of bright green bulbs all over the plants, which makes me happy – all growing at diffferent intervals and all I can say, is that in a couple of weeks, I might be making fried green tomato bulbs… instead of the normal “slices” – why not? I’m not holding out too much hope in September, when it is starting to get really cold out, that the tomatoes are going to turn red.
Peppers! Lots of beautiful blooms popping up and there are even a few teeny, tiny peppers! Mei and I took a recent trip over to the garden shop and were teased by how large and abundant their pepper plants are! Is there something I’m not doing right now???…
There were some two feet high aubergine (eggplant) plants on clearance that I almost re-homed, but didnt have room in the car that day, maybe next week we will take one home with us and plant and hope for the best? I’m all for re-homing plants in my garden! I will just have to get some cane connectors to protect and aid the support of the plant as the eggplants grow larger. How exciting!
The butternut squash is really taking off, I have had a few HUGE blossoms come up and the plant is now sprawling out and stretching across the bed. I’m taking notes for next year when I plant another one, to give the squash plenty of space! I’m excited to see if any squash develop and how big they will get! I have some things in mind for them when they come around! Risotto anyone? Soup, perhaps?
All in all, the garden is growing and I have some new and exciting things to show off to my husband when he returns and show friends! Or even share with friends possibly!
